This unbound letterbook covers the periods August-October 1881 and July-November 1883. All of the correspondence is by Charles Batchelor and is primarily in his hand. The book is divided into two parts. Pages 1-58 cover the period August-October 1881. Most of the letters deal with the Paris Electrical Exhibition of 1881 and with Edison's competitors in Europe. Pages 59-192 cover the period July-November 1883. Most of the correspondence concerns the operation of Edison's European lighting companies. Among the recipients in both parts are Edison, Sherburne B. Eaton, and Francis Jehl. The book contains 300 numbered pages and an index prepared by an archivist. Approximately 80 percent of the book has been selected. Courtesy of Thomas Edison National Historical Park.
