These nine notebooks were used in 1911, 1914, and 1919 by Amandis W. Almquist, H. W. Jones, Robert Saville, Harold H. Smith, and other Edison employees. The books describe work on Edison's "Detroit" or "Ford" electric vehicle, including tests of efficiency and cooling, as well as tests on starters, chain drives, generators, idlers, and various belts and pulleys. Also included are performance tests of engines and batteries. In addition, there are entries relating to electric lighting for the vehicles. Some of the tests took place on Eagle Rock Hill in West Orange. Related electric wagon tests can be found in N-13-05-22, Kinetophone and Kinetoscope Experiments -- L. E. Briggs Books [not selected].
