These nineteen notebooks were used by Charles L. Clarke and others during the period 1882-1896. Eight of the selected books are hand copies, made under Clarke's direction in 1928 and 1936, by an unidentified copyist. Four books are entitled "Electrical Experiments and Tests" and cover the period January 1882-August 1883. Included are tests of the conductivity of wire and the resistance of lamps, along with tests of dynamos, safety catches, galvanometers, resistance boxes, and voltage regulation designs. The other four hand-copied books, numbered 1-4, bear the title "Electric Light Meter, 1882." The four selected notebooks from the 1890s contain notes by Clarke relating to lamps, meters, dynamos, and other electrical distribution system components. Much of this material was copied by Clarke from books, journal articles, and U.S. and British patents.
The seven unselected notebooks bear the following titles: "Zipernowsky-Deri-Blathy Induction Coil" (2 books, ca. 1881); "TESLA Electrical Transmission of Power by Polyphase Currents" (4 books, 1895-1896); and "Home Plan Book" (1895-1896).
