For each correspondent, original letters and those selected from the microfilm appear in a single chronological sequence in the digital edition. With a few exceptions, the letters by Mina Edison and the six children of Thomas Edison have been completely selected for the period through 1931.

1. "Original Telegrams. Thomas Edison's Children." A note inside indicates the following telegrams: (1) Thomas and Mina Edison to Charles Edison; (2) Charles and Carolyn Edison to Thomas and Mina Edison; (3) Madeleine and John Sloane to Thomas and Mina Edison; (4) Theodore and Ann Edison to Thomas and Mina Edison; (5) William and Blanche Edison to Thomas and Mina Edison; (6) Mina's siblings to Thomas and Mina Edison; (7) Greeting cards from Thomas's children. The dates range from 1910 through the 1940s. Pencilled numbers on the bottom of the telegrams indicate that most, but not all, appear on the CEF microfilm.
2. "Letters to Father and Mina from Thomas Alva Edison's 1st marriage: Thomas, Jr; William, Marion." Pencilled numbers on the bottom indicate that most of the letters are from the CEF microfilm reels 4, 12, and 14. The unnumbered letters at the end of the Edison Jr. sequence of correspondence are post-1931 letters from Beatrice Edison to Mina Miller Edison. The unnumbered letters scattered throughout the Marion Edison sequence are also primarily post-1931, although many unnumbered letters are undated and some are from the late 1920s. Also included is a 12-page typescript written in 1956: "The Wizard of Menlo Park by His Daughter Marion Edison Oser."
3. "Charles & Carolynn Edison's Letters to Mother & Father." The numbered letters are from reels 5 and 9 of the CEF microfilm. There are also numerous documents without numbers. Many of the letters are undated. The dated letters appear to be mainly from the 1920s and 1930s, but some are from as early as 1911. Most of the letters are from Charles Edison to Mina Miller Edison, but there is one lengthy typewritten letter to Thomas Edison, April 14, 1920, regarding "conditions in the Disc Record [Department]." Also included are several report cards from MIT, 1909-1911, and numerous 3"x5" index cards with Charles's notes, possibly for a speech or presentation.
4. "Theodore & Ann Edison's Letters to Mother & Father. Volume 1." The letters are all from reels 5, 10, and 11 of the CEF microfilm. The dated items range from 1909 through 1923. The letters are arranged in rough chronological order, with a series of postcards preceding the letters. Despite the label, there are no letters by Ann Edison in this volume.
5. "Theodore & Ann Edison's Letters to Mother & Father. Volume 2." As indicated by the label, this is a continuation of the previous binder. The letters are primarily from reels 5, 10, and 11 of the CEF microfilm. They range from 1924 through 1942 and are in rough chronological order. Beginning in March 1925, there are also letters by Ann Osterhout Edison. The few unnumbered letters are all post-1931.
6. "Madeleine & John Sloan[e]'s Letters to Mother and Father, Volume 1." The unnumbered letters at the beginning of the binder all appear to be post-1931, but most of these letters are undated. The numbered letters are primarily from reels 1 and 2 of the CEF microfilm, although at least one is from reel 5. They appear to be primarily from the late 1910s and the 1920s, although many are undated.
7. "Madeleine & John Sloan[e]'s Letters to Mother and Father, Volume 2." The numbered letters are from reels 1, 2, and 5 of the CEF microfilm. Many of them are undated; many of the dated items were written during the late 1910s, while the Sloanes were living in Washington, D.C. In the middle of the binder are a few letters dating from 1908-1914. Probably dating from that period is a whimsical note, "Rules for Guests at Seminole Lodge." At the end of the binder are unnumbered letters from the late 1930s and1940s, along with a few unnumbered items from the 1920s.
8. "Dear Charles Edison's Letters: Grandparents, Sisters/Brothers, Aunts/Uncles, Cousins, Friends' Letters." Most of the letters in this binder do not appear on the CEF microfilm. They are addressed to Charles and/or Carolyn Edison. The earliest letters, dating from 1887, are from Charles's grandmother, Mary Valinda Miller. There are also letters by his grandfather, Lewis Miller; his sister Madeleine and his brother Theodore; his uncle John V. Miller (including a 1908 letter discussing the battery and "kinetoscope deal"); and various other uncles and aunts. Also included are numerous letters addressed to him as "Charlie" and "Smoke" by former Hotchkiss classmate Gerald W. Hinkley, who signs as "Poggy." The letters from Edie (Thomas Edison's cousin, Edith Clarissa Edison) to "Blackie" are not addressed to Charles but rather to Mina Miller Edison. The letters are in rough chronological order by correspondent. The vast majority of the dated items are pre-1920; many are pre-1911. There are also numerous undated letters, probably from the same period. The correspondence with non-family members has not been selected.
9. "Letters of Prominent People Writing to Mina and Thomas Edison." This binder contains letters by John Burroughs, William and Margaret Colgate, Charles W. Fairbanks, Gen. Jacob Gould, Lord Kelvin, Sir Thomas Lipton, Charles Schwab, Albert Spaulding, Fanny Garrison Villard, and Woodrow Wilson.
10. "Mina Edison Letters." This binder contains letters by Mina Miller Edison, primarily to Charles and Carolyn Edison. A note inside indicates that there are some letters mentioning Helen Keller and Henry Ford, along with others that mention Thomas Edison and business matters. According to the note, the dated items range from 1895 to 1937. There are many undated letters. None of the letters appear on the CEF microfilm.
11. "Mina's Letter[s] from Mother and Father Mary and Lewis Miller." In addition to letters by Mary Valinda and Lewis Miller, the five envelopes in this box contain some correspondence by Mina Miller Edison, including a series of letters written while she was touring Europe during the summer of 1884 and other letters written during her visits to Europe in 1889 and 1911. Most of the letters by Mina are not on the CEF microfilm. The letters to Mina are primarily from reels 9 and 10 of the CEF microfilm. There are a few letters from reel 13 and a few unnumbered letters not on the CEF microfilm.
12. "Mina's Sister and Brother-in-Law Grace and Halbert Hitchcock." The four envelopes in this box contain letters primarily by Grace Miller and her husband, Halbert K. Hitchcock. The numbered letters are from reel 13 of the CEF microfilm. One envelope contains numerous letters without numbers, including some letters written by Mina Miller Edison.
13. "Mina's Sister and Brother-in-Law Mary and William Nichols." The three envelopes in this box contain letters by Mary Emily Miller and her husband, William W. Nichols. Most of the letters are from reels 3, 12, and 13 of the CEF microfilm. The letters without numbers are primarily from the 1930s and 1940s
14. "Mina's Relatives Letters." The six envelopes in this box bear the following inscriptions: (1) Robert/Louise Miller; (2) Lewis/Cotta Miller; (3) Ira/Cora Miller; (4) John/Nancy Miller; (5) Marion Miller [Edison's sister, Marion Edison Page]; (6) Mina's Stepchildren [the children of her second husband, Edward Everett Hughes]. Many of the letters in envelopes 1-3 and 5 bear pencil inscriptions indicating that they appear on the CEF microfilm. The letters without pencil inscriptions (not on the CEF microfilm) are primarily from the 1930s and 1940s.
15. "Mina's Relatives Writing to Other Relatives." The two envelopes in this box contain letters to and from various members of the Miller and Edison families and their in-laws, including Mary Emily Miller, Grace Miller and Halbert K. Hitchcock, Lewis Miller, Cotta Smyser Miller, Ann Osterhout Edison, and John Edison (Jack) Sloane. There are also letters to Mina Miller Edison written by various friends and relatives. A few letters bear pencil inscriptions indicating that they appear on the CEF microfilm.
