These letters are primarily from Grace Miller (1870-1952) to her older sister, Mina Miller Edison. There is also some correspondence by Halbert K. (Hal) Hitchcock, a businessman whom Grace married in 1916, along with other letters jointly authored by Grace and Hal. The selected items, many of which are undated, cover the years 1899-1931. The letters contain numerous references to the Edison children and various members of the Miller family; the travel, health, work, and celebrity of Thomas Edison; and visits at the Edison homes in New Jersey and Florida. There are also letters relating to the treatment of Grace's sister Mary at the Battle Creek Sanitarium in 1909, the final illness of her mother Mary Valinda in 1910-1912, and the disposition of her estate. Other letters pertain to the death of her brother-in-law Richard Marvin in 1906 and her brother Robert in 1911, the marriage of Charles Edison in 1918, and the Golden Jubilee of the electric light in 1929. There are numerous references in the later letters to Halbert Kellogg Hitchcock (1865-1930), the Pittsburgh glass manufacturer whom Grace married in February 1916. The last latter (added in August 2012) consoles Mina in the wake of her husband's recent death.

There are approximately 370 letters and other documents by or about Grace Miller, Halbert K. Hitchcock, and other members of the Hitchcock family in Books #5 and #34 on the Charles Edison Fund microfilm. Some letters were cut off at their edges at the time they were microfilmed and, as a result, some of the text is missing. Other letters with faint ink are partially illegible on the microfilm. Images of these letters that were formerly on the Edison Papers website have been replaced by full-color images scanned from the original letters.
