Corning, NY. Manufacturer of glass, ceramics and related materials, primarily for industrial and scientific applications. Founded in 1851 by Arthur A. Houghton. His son, Arthur Jr., subsequently became president (1890 letterhead). The company\'s name was changed to Corning, Incorporated in 1989. During the early 1880s the Works supplied TAE\'s lamp factory with globes and tubes. TAEB 6: 336: n. 6. According to Charles Batchelor, \"the Corning folks make the best glass in the world perfectly reliable & we never have any trouble.\"" TAEB 6, Doc. 2314.\r\n\r\nNote: Until 11-4-2008 this company appeared in the name records as \""Corning Glass Co\"" and was so listed in the indexes to TAEM. There is no evidence that it was ever officially known by that name, and the letterhead in TAEM is \""Corning Glass Works.\"""
