D8027H. ## Founded by Robert Hoe (d.1833), an Englishman who established himself as a manufacturer of printing machinery as early as 1820, and was among the first to make iron printing presses in America; among his first was a patented hand press; he also made the first successful singe and double cylindar presses, printing from type on flat beds. Business was continued by his sons, Richard M. and Robert Hoe (1815-1884), who brought out the \"Lightning\"" or type revolving printing machine (US patent, Richard M. Hoe).
